Overview

The color difference test shows four squares, and one has a slightly different color. Each time you pick correctly three times in a row at the same level, the difference gets smaller, and the number of levels you clear becomes your score. A higher number means you told apart finer color differences. The difference changes direction every time, across lightness and hue, so you cannot just look for the brightest square. There is no time limit, so you can compare the squares carefully.

Rules

  1. Of the four squares, pick the one with a different color
  2. Three correct picks in a row at the same level move you to the next level, where the difference is smaller
  3. A wrong pick repeats the same level with new colors
  4. Wrong picks keep counting across levels. Two wrong picks in total ends the test, and the number of levels you cleared becomes your score

FAQ

How is this different from the Color Perception test?

The Color Perception test also asks for speed, finding as many odd tiles as you can within the time limit while the grid grows. This test keeps four squares, removes the time limit, and measures only how small a color difference you can tell apart.

Does my screen change the result?

Yes. Screen brightness, color settings, night modes that warm the colors, room lighting and viewing angle all change how the same difference looks. When comparing your results, play on the same device at the same brightness.

Does this tell me my type of color vision?

No. This is a game that measures whether you can tell apart small color differences, not a way to judge your type of color vision. How people see color differs from person to person, and some pairs are harder to tell apart depending on the direction of the difference. If you are worried about how you see colors, please see an eye doctor.

Does practice help?

You can try different ways of looking, such as comparing the squares one by one or softening your gaze to spot the one that stands out. You can see your own trend on the results screen.
